The turmeric curcumin plant origin its name from the turmeric root and its family,

Zingiberaceae. It grows in South Asia. Turmeric is a rhizomatous perennial herbaceous

plant. It is recommended as a component in a number of medical preparations in Ayurvedic

books such as Charaka Samhita, Susrutha Samhita, Vaagbhada Samhita, and Haritha

 

Samhita. Turmeric has long been used as an antibiotic and de-toxic agent to treat burns,

cuts, and to eliminate foreign substances from the body, but nowadays it is used very often

in cooking as a disease prevention measure, and to add flavor and color to the food. Almost

every Indian tradition recommends consuming food with turmeric daily to prevent many

diseases and ailments of the body.
